Our top priority in any emergency situation is the safety and security of our students and staff. One critical aspect of emergency response is an organized and accountable reunification of students with their parents/guardians in the event of a school crisis or emergency. As part of our Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), we have developed detailed evacuation and reunification plans for all of our school campuses. Guardians will be notified pertinent information via ParentSquare Alerts.
Situations may arise in which reuniting parents/guardians with their students at the school is not a safe option. In these situations, parents and guardians will be directed to our designated Reunification Site: BoDome. At the BoDome Reunification Site, Lockport Township District 205 will implement a formalized and controlled process of accounting for and releasing students. In the event of an emergency, do not rush to the school to pick up your child. This will only create additional traffic that may impede needed emergency vehicles and your presence at the site could delay the evacuation process.
Parents/guardians are key partners in Reunification events. Guardians can ensure the success of reunification operations by reviewing the steps of the plan and discussing these steps with their student. In stressful situations like those that require reunification, prior discussion and review of the plan helps the process run more smoothly and reduces anxiety. Please take the time to review the parent/guardian video & student video lesson.
A Lockport High School staff member will approach the guardian’s vehicle and ask to see a picture ID.
Six Easy Steps | |
---|---|
Step 1 - Greetings | As parents arrive at the reunification site, Greeters explain the process and distribute Reunification Cards. PARENTS ARE TO REMAIN IN THEIR CAR |
Step 2 - Parents Fill Out Card | Parents complete the information requested on the card and remain in line inside of their vehicle. |
Step 3 - Checkers Verify ID | Parent custody is verified. The card is torn on the perforation and the bottom is returned to the parent. The top is given to the Accountant. |
Step 4 - Reunification Area | At the Reunification Area (parking lot drive in front of BoDome main entrance), parents give the bottom of the card to the Reunifier. The Reunifier goes to the Assembly area to get the student. |
Step 5 - Student Reunification | The Reunifier returns the student to their parents asking the student if they feel comfortable leaving with that adult. Then they note the time and initial the bottom of the card. |
Step 6 - Accountability | The Reunifier delivers the bottom of the card to the Student Assembly Accountant. The Accountant may start sorting the cards. |
Once this is complete, you are free to leave the Reunification Site with your student.
⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️
Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to follow the notifications sent to them or posted on social media by Lockport High School. Please do not respond to the school. The arrival of parents/guardians on campus may hamper the efforts of first responders and hinder reunification efforts.
Please remain calm and patient. Incidents that lead to the activation of a Reunification are extremely stressful for everyone involved - students and staff alike - and your patience is important for maintaining a smooth operation.
