Practice ACT for Juniors - Wednesday, January 8, 2025
On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, all junior students will report to school at 7:45 AM to take a Practice ACT assessment. All junior students must have a charged Chromebook. Testing should conclude by third period and juniors will join their classes as soon as the test is completed. All other students will have a regular school day with the traditional Wednesday late start of 9:45 AM.
As we plan, we wanted to share important transportation details and additional announcements.
Bus Transportation: To ensure all juniors arrive on time for the practice ACT at 7:45 AM, our Transportation Department will run two rounds of buses in the morning. Afterward, buses will run again to pick up the remaining students for the late start at 9:45 AM.
Chromebooks & Loaners: This important announcement only impacts East Campus. Due to the practice ACT on January 8, there are limited loaners available. Also, on Tuesday, January 7, no daily loaners will be given out as the Technology Department prepares for the test.
Calculators & Cell Phones: If a student chooses to bring their own calculator on test day, it must be an ACT-approved calculator. Please remind them to read the ACT Calculator Policy. Students are not allowed to bring their cell phones or smart watches to the testing room. They must put them away.
ACT Document: Students will receive an ACT document in COMPASS on Tuesday, January 7th. This document will contain their testing room, seat assignment, and other important information. Students are to bring this document with them when they test on Wednesday, January 8th.
In April, juniors will be required by the State of Illinois to take the ACT. The SAT has been the State's accountability assessment for many years so many of our junior students have never taken the ACT assessment. We would like to provide them with practice of the ACT and feedback on their results to begin the process of preparing them for the Spring administration of the ACT in April. The ACT is a critical assessment widely accepted by colleges across the United States.
Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form families need to fill out to get any financial aid from the federal government to help pay for college. Several states and colleges also use the FAFSA to determine which students get financial aid and how much they'll get. Illinois requires graduating high school seniors to complete the FAFSA.
College & Career Visits
Campus visits offer students the opportunity to see firsthand colleges' facilities, equipment, and housing, meet staff, talk to current students, and get answers to their questions. LTHS also hosts a number of campus callers during the school day.
Essays & Scholarships
In December, the Guidance Office posts a number of scholarships that are offered by the Community and the LTHS Foundation. It's important for seniors to apply early and meet the application deadlines.
Scholarships applications can be found in SchooLinks
School Records
Beginning with the Class of 2023 official transcripts should be ordered through their SchooLinks account, Students should contact their Counselors with any questions. Any Alumni before the Class of 2023 will still use Parchment. Other permanent records can be requested through the Registrar's Office.
Other Post-Secondary Options
Not every career requires college! Here are links to Local Unions/Apprenticeships and Military options for students considering these options.
