National Art Honor Society

Welcome to the Lockport Township High School chapter of the National Art Honor Society!

Mission Statement:  The National Art Education Association (NAEA) advances visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding.

Club Description:  The National Art Honor Society was established in 1978 in the United States by the National Art Education Association for high school student’s grades 10-12. Its purpose is to assist student members to attain their highest potential in all forms of art, and to raise awareness of art education throughout the school and community.  Member students are eligible to apply to the Charles M. Robertson Memorial Scholarship, a special four year scholarship to the Pratt Institute’s School of Art and Design in New York.  Members and their school art program are eligible for several awards and grant programs.  They are encouraged to submit articles and art work for publication in the NAHS News, which is published twice a year and is received by students as well as sponsors. Students and their sponsors can attend the group’s annual convention and receive professional publications for inclusion into the school’s resource library.

Members are welcome to participate in a yearly trip that focuses on art and culture in America. In 2015, members went to New Orleans, Louisiana for a three day excursion into the unique art, culture and food that the city offers. Experiencing a seasoned Jazz band at Preservation Hall, photographing the many beautiful cemeteries and taking a tour of the warehouse that builds the official Mardi Gras floats were just some of the highlights of our first trip as a group.  2016 Members are heading to San Francisco. This trip will explore San Francisco’s famous Chinatown.  We will take a tour and learn about the programs at the San Francisco Art Institute and, of course, visit the infamous Alcatraz.  Our members also explore art and culture locally with monthly trips to the city of Chicago. Visiting local art galleries, taking in art films and feasting on new and delicious samplings of food our members have never experienced, these trips expand the lives of our members. Through transportation, navigation and participating in the cultural offerings of the city, our members become inspired by the diverse world around them.

Ms. Ferrill not only encourages the members of LTHS NAHS to create art whether it is stand-up comedy, film making, photography, ceramics or painting and drawing but also designs a program to experience art and culture locally and nationally.  Art is EVERYWHERE! Join National Art Honor Society at LTHS and let’s create, envision and experience art together.
